4 Quick Tips to Protect Your Privacy

As an adult content creator, your privacy is vital to your safety. These 4 quick tips will help you stay safe when you’re on social media and adult platforms.

1. Don’t live-post on social media.

If you’re out and about, go ahead and take photos, but don’t post them until you’re home. Never post a picture of an identifiable location while you are still there. After you leave, check the photo for anything that might be too specific to post. For example, the interior of a Starbucks in the background is probably okay, but the exterior of the same store with a road sign in the background might be too much, especially if you live close by or go there often.

2. Don’t cross-post pictures.

Reverse image searching is available to the general public and is easy to use. Don’t post personal photos on your personal social media that are also on your adult model’s social media, adult profiles, or websites. Even a cute pet photo posted to both work and personal accounts can lead to someone linking your legal name to your cam identity.

3. Watch the music you play.

Did you know that Spotify plays geo-targeted ads? I didn’t until 2 days ago when they played an ad for an independent mechanic in my neighborhood. If you listen to music on an ad-supported platform–including YouTube, Spotify and other streaming services, and traditional radio–you run the risk of exposing your location. If you live in a large city this may not be an issue, but if you are in a smaller town or do not publicly disclose your location, this can present a problem.

4. Use a VPN.

A Virtual Private Network will protect your IP address (and through it, your location) in case it is accidentally or intentionally discovered. There are both free and paid VPN services available, and the slight hassle of learning to use one is more than worth it for your peace of mind. Most sites allow you to broadcast using a VPN, but if your chosen adult site doesn’t, speak up about it. Models need to make sure sites are doing everything they can to help them protect their privacy, and VPNs are an important part of that.
